Arkansas’ hiring of Chad Morris has left a domino effect – but don’t expect to see it elsewhere in the bowl season.
SMU interim coach Jeff Traylor was supposed to coach the Mustangs in the Frisco Bowl, but is following his former boss to the Razorbacks. The solution, as reported by the the Dallas Morning News: Incoming coach Sonny Dykes, who was set to take over after the bowl, will coach the Mustangs in the game against Louisiana Tech.
That game is only eight days away. So Dykes, who served as a TCU offensive analyst this season and previously was coach at Louisiana Tech and California, will take over his new team with barely a week of preparation for bowl season.
That leaves open some fascinating possibilities for fans’ imaginations to run wild.
Imagine Jimbo Fisher leading Texas A&M in the Belk Bowl against Wake Forest, or Chip Kelly coaching UCLA at the Cactus Bowl against Kansas State, or new Mississippi State coach Joe Moorhead plunging in at the deep end against Louisville in the TaxSlayer Bowl.
Traylor’s exact role at Arkansas has not yet been announced, although he coached running backs at SMU.
