What’s the gift idea sweeping (part of) the nation? If you’re a Vanderbilt fan, it’s the authentic Derek Mason-approved vest.
And that has Commodores athletic staffers busy.
The rush of fans who want to buy the distinctive $199 vests means plenty of work for the university to get those delivered in time for Christmas. The school posted a photo of the staff (“Santa’s elves”) Monday on Twitter.

In the nearly two weeks since Vanderbilt announced the vests would be on sale, they’ve drawn big-time interest. The sale period closed on Dec. 15.

The vest has even spawned a Twitter hashtag, #inVESTed, used with all sorts of things connected to Mason’s favorite gear.
Mason wore the same Nike vest during Vanderbilt’s 45-34 win over Tennessee in its regular season, which both made the Commodores bowl eligible and ended the Volunteers’ hopes at reaching the Sugar Bowl.
Vanderbilt finished 6-6 this season under Mason – his third at the school. The Commodores last reached a bowl game in 2013.
Vanderbilt will play NC State in the Independence Bowl on Dec. 26 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
