Steve Spurrier said he was done coaching when he stepped down at South Carolina in 2015. But he’s still not over this conclusion to his coaching career.

Spurrier said Friday on SiriusXM College Sports that he may have held on to coaching for too long.

The Gamecocks were 2-4 in that 2015 season when Spurrier decided he was finished. He ended his college coaching career at 228-89-2.

Spurrier now serves as an ambassador and consultant for Florida’s athletic department, where he keeps close tabs on the football program.

Spurrier said Florida could win the SEC again soon, but the Gators must get past Alabama. He says that will require some particular improvement on one side of the ball.

Florida currently has an ongoing quarterback competition between Luke Del Rio and redshirt freshmen Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask.
