If David Blackburn is looking for an endorsement as the next Tennessee athletic director, it looks like he may have found a good one.
On Tuesday, Calhoun’s, a popular ribs restaurant chain in East Tennessee, wrote on Twitter that it along with “over 1,400 avid UT fans” endorse Blackburn to become the school’s next athletic director.

Blackburn, who currently serves as the athletic director at Chattanooga, began his career at Tennessee in 1993. He served in a variety of roles at the school under then-football coach Phillip Fulmer, including assistant director of compliance, director of football operations, and assistant athletic director for football operations.
During his time on staff, Tennessee went 99-24, won the 1998 national championship and two SEC championships.
Blackburn has been the athletic director at Chattanooga since April 2013. The school is a part of the University of Tennessee system.
In the tweet, Calhoun’s also implored fans to contact Tennessee president Joe DiPietro, new Tennessee chancellor Beverley Davenport and Tennessee board of trustees vice chair Raja Jubran to voice their choice.
“It’s time to put the athletic department back in the hands of a Tennessean,” the restaurant wrote.
Current Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart announced in August that he will retire on June 30, 2017.
