Recruiting

A quick look at Texas A&M’s 2018 recruiting class, with a grade

G Tank Jenkins: Jenkins (6-3, 325 pounds) is a four-star prospect from Montgomery (Ala.) Park Crossing. He is one of the top 15 guards in the nation. A&M was a relative latecomer to his recruitment, and he chose the Aggies over Oklahoma and Ole Miss.

S Brian Johnson: Johnson (6-1, 185 pounds) is a three-star prospect from Manvel (Texas) High; he is one of three players from Manvel, which is in the Houston suburbs, to sign with the Aggies in this recruiting cycle. He could be ticketed for linebacker with the Aggies.

DE Jeremiah Martin: Martin (6-5, 240 pounds), a four-star prospect, is from San Bernardino (Calif.) Cajon, in the L.A. suburbs. He visited A&M in October and remained interested through the coaching change. Martin, who is one of the top-35 recruits in California, chose the Aggies over Washington and Oklahoma on NSD

S Leon O’Neal Jr.: O’Neal (6-1, 190 pounds) is a four-star recruit from Cypress (Texas) Cy Springs, in the Houston suburbs. He is one of the top-10 safeties nationally and a top-75 prospect overall. He committed to A&M in June 2017, then re-opened his recruitment in early December, after Kevin Sumlin was fired. But the new A&M staff made O’Neal a priority, bringing him in for a visit on December 9. O’Neal then unofficially visited College Station this past weekend, and announced Monday he would become an Aggie.

WR Jalen Preston: Preston (6-2, 195 pounds) is a four-star prospect from Manvel (Texas) High and one of the jewels of Fisher’s first class with the Aggies. He is a national top-100 prospect. Preston committed to A&M over the summer but didn’t sign in December.

RB Deneric Prince: Prince (6-1, 196 pounds) is a three-star recruit from Manvel (Texas) High. He committed last summer, but chose not to sign because he wanted to get to know the new coaches. Once he became comfortable with the new staff, he reaffirmed his commitment. He received a late offer from Arizona, now coached by former A&M coach Kevin Sumlin.

RB Charles Strong: Strong (6-1, 220 pounds) is a three-star prospect from Lake Butler (Fla.) Union County, which is about 40 miles from Florida’s campus. Strong is a former Florida State commitment who re-opened his recruitment in early December, after Fisher left. He ended up choosing the Aggies over Ole Miss.

DE Tyree Wilson: Wilson (6-6, 230 pounds) is a three-star prospect from New London (Texas) West Rusk. He chose the Aggies over Arkansas. Wilson is a late bloomer — he was 5 feet 9 when he was 15 — with intriguing athleticism; he runs the anchor leg on the school’s 4×400 relay team.
