Jimbo Fisher hasn’t had much time in College Station, but he’s already starting to see rewards from his recruiting efforts at Texas A&M.
The Aggies picked up the signatures of several leading recruits Wednesday, the first day of the NCAA’s new early signing period. The early signing period extends through Friday.
Fisher’s wish list undoubtedly includes help on the offensive line as well as wide receiver, where Texas A&M can count on losing star wideout Christian Kirk to the NFL Draft. And it never hurts to add another pass rusher or two on a defensive unit that has been brutally effective at squashing quarterbacks in recent seasons.
Here’s a llook at the eight players who signed with the Aggies on Wednesday.
OT Colten Blanton: Blanton (6 feet 7, 285 pounds) is a four-star prospect from Cypress (Texas) Cy-Ranch, in the Houston suburbs. A U.S. Army All-American Bowl selection, Blanton committed to the Aggies on November 12.
WR Caleb Chapman: Chapman (6-5, 206 pounds) is a three-star recruit from Friendswood (Texas) Clear Brook, in the Houston suburbs. Chapman had 45 receptions as a senior, and 17 went for TDs.
G Luke Matthews: Matthews (6-4, 305 pounds) is a four-star prospect from Missouri City (Texas) Elkins, in the Houston suburbs. Committed to A&M since February 2016, he becomes the fourth Matthews brother to play on the Aggies’ offensive front, following in the path of older brothers Kevin, Jake and Mike.
CB Jordan Moore: Moore (5-11, 180 pounds) is a four-star recruit from Yoakum (Texas) High, which is midway between Houston and San Antonio. Moore committed to the Aggies on Christmas Even 2016.
WR Montel Parker: Parker (6-2, 185 pounds) is a three-star recruit from Dickinson (Texas) High, near Galveston. Parker had been committed to the Aggies since February.
K Seth Small: Small (5-11, 190 pounds) is a three-star prospect from Katy (Texas) High, another Houston suburb. Small, who committed to the Aggies in April, is one of the nation’s highest-ranked high school kickers.
TE Jace Sternberger: Sternberger (6-4, 240 pounds) is a three-star prospect from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. A top junior college prospect, he had originally enrolled at Kansas but transferred to junior college and committed to the Aggies on December 10.
DE Max Wright: Wright (6-4, 270 pounds) is a four-star prospect from Katy (Texas) Taylor. He’s one of the top-10 strongside ends nationally and also is a national top-200 prospect overall.
