Former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow joined “XL Primetime” in Jacksonville to discuss Dan Mullen’s return to Mississippi State.
“It’s going to be a really big one for Coach Mullen and I know it means a lot to him,” Tebow told 1010XL. “He put his heart and soul into that program for nearly a decade and now he is at a different place, so it’s going to mean a lot.
“I think it’s going to be an extremely competitive game against Mississippi State. They are going to have the advantage of it being at home for them. They also have a very talented team. There is a chance they have three first-round draft picks on that team. Their quarterback Nick Fitzgerald has had some great seasons, but he is not playing his best right now and he really struggled last week against Kentucky.
“If Florida is able to get some pressure on him and disrupt some things offensively and slow down the quarterback running game, then I really think that could make this a competitive ballgame.”
Florida is off to a 3-1 start in 2018 including a 47-21 throttling of Tennessee last Saturday. What are Tebow’s thoughts on the Gators season so far?
“I think you can just watch the way Feleipe (Franks) is playing and these running backs, I think they are really improving,” Tebow said. “I also think that what is shocking to a lot of Florida fans is that you lost to Kentucky, but in my opinion, I think Kentucky is a really good football team so it’s not as bad of a loss, and after their win over Mississippi State last week, people are like, ‘well, Kentucky may be a pretty good team this year.’
“One of the biggest things for Florida is playing with confidence and doing what Coach Mullen always talks about in that it’s not always about individual players, but playing as a team and being able to support one another and I think you saw that really for the first-time last week against Tennessee where offense, defense and special teams played for each other.
Franks has shown improvement this fall, throwing for 12 touchdowns and only two interceptions. Tebow was asked what about Franks’ game has improved the most from last year to this year.
