Nation’s No. 10 OT Andrew Thomas commits to Georgia

Four-star offensive tackle Andrew Thomas committed to Georgia on Sunday. The announcement was made on the final day of Nike’s The Opening in Beaverton, Oregon, which was broadcast on ESPNU.

He later made the same announcement on Twitter.

The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Thomas told that he’s choosing Georgia, because he believes in what the coaches are selling about the future.

“It was my relationship with the coaching staff and the business program, which is what I want to major in,” Thomas said. “Plus the lack of offensive tackles they have right now.”

Thomas, a 2017 prospect who plays at Pace Academy in Atlanta is ranked No. 10 among all offensive tackles, No. 4 overall among all recruits in the state of Georgia and No. 49 overall nationally, according to 247Sports Composite.

Georgia offensive line coach Sam Pittman is Thomas’ primary recruiter, with running backs coach Dell McGee serving as his secondary recruiter.

In addition to Pittman and McGee, Thomas said a few already committed Georgia recruits helped sway his decision.

“(Four-star wide receiver/Pace teammate) Trey Blount, (four-star linebacker) Jaden (Hunter]), they are always on me,” Thomas said. “I am good friends with them so that will be pretty interesting.”

Georgia started the day as the No. 3-ranked 2017 class, according to 247Sports, but jumped to No. 2 nationally, including No. 1 in the SEC, after landing Thomas and four-star running back Toneil Carter earlier Sunday. With Thomas, the Bulldogs now have four offensive linemen – Thomas, D’Antne Demery, Netori Johnson and Justin Shaffer – in their 2017 class.

Thomas has 29 total offers, which also includes Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, in addition to Georgia.

Thomas believes more top recruits will be on their way to Athens soon enough.

“There is more good news on the way,” Thomas said. “I think we might have the No. 1 class by signing day.”
