The 2017 SEC football season had some memorable games. Truthfully, not that many ended up being important, but that certainly didn’t make them any less entertaining.
Here is our ranking of the top 10 SEC football games of 2017. There weren’t necessarily the most important, but they were memorable, especially if you didn’t care who won.
10. Kentucky 40, Missouri 34
The particulars: October 7 in Lexington
The skinny: Two fourth-quarter field goals from Austin MacGinnis decided the game for the Wildcats in this wide-open shootout. The teams combined for more than 1,000 yards – 568 for Mizzou and 468 for Kentucky, including 355 passing yards from Mizzou QB Drew Lock. Kentucky led from the start, but the Tigers’ repeated comebacks kept them in the hunt. Mizzou tied it at 34 on Lock’s 75-yard pass to Johnathan Johnson with 13:46 left in the fourth quarter before MacGinnis connected on 53- and 20-yarders to give UK the win. Missouri came up short in the end, but the determined effort marked the game as a turning point that highlighted the Tigers’ coming improvements in the season’s second half. Missouri is 6-1 since this loss.
