2. DL Jonathan Allen, Alabama

Range: Second to seventh overall.
Comment: Allen’s versatility likely will make him a top-five pick. Although he’s been pushed (and perhaps passed) by Stanford’s Solomon Thomas, Allen remains one of the best talents available in this NFL draft. If the 49ers were to choose Thomas over Allen at No. 2, he still would make sense for Chicago, Jacksonville and Tennessee in the next three slots. It’s almost impossible to see Allen slipping beyond the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 7. The only wild card with Allen is how much teams are concerned with the long-term health of his shoulders.
