Run-stopping 4-star DT Trevor Trout: ‘I will keep my eye on Missouri’

Trevor Trout

Four-star defensive tackle Trevor Trout has offers from at least one school in every Power Five conference, including half of the programs in the SEC.

“Everything is going pretty well so far,” Trout told GN regarding his recruitment. “Everything is working out.”

Trout (6 feet 4, 305 pounds), from St. Louis Chaminade, is among the top 15 defensive tackle prospects nationally and is an overall top-200 prospect in the class of 2018.

Among SEC schools, Trout has been offered by Arkansas, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee and his home-state Missouri Tigers.

“They’re coming off a bad season, and hopefully they can turn it around and have a pretty good season this year,” Trout said regarding Mizzou. “I’m going to see what they are going to do and how they do will determine where they stand with me.

“I’m pretty much open to everybody, but I will keep my eye on Missouri.”

What type of defensive lineman is Trout?

“I’m a run-stopper and I can collapse the pocket,” Trout said. “I’m a three-technique and I can also play a 3-4 defensive end. I love stopping the run because it’s way harder to stop the run than it is to stop the pass.”

He thinks defensive tackles are asked to do different things depending on the conference.

“Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel about it because it’s all about what you’re looking for at your position,” Trout said regarding the different conferences. “I think in the Big Ten, defensive tackles are known. In the SEC, defensive tackles are pretty balanced, you could say, and I think the SEC has better pass rushers. The Pac-12 is about pass rushers because all they do is throw the ball, and the Big 12 is about run-stoppers.”

Trout, whose latest offers are from Arizona State, Miami and Minnesota within the past two months, plans on playing his recruitment out.

“As of right now, I will be committing in February,” he said.
