The Commodores picked up their latest such prospect Sunday afternoon, when three-star running back JaVeon Marlow pledged to them on Twitter.

“It has been a long ride but I have finally found my new home,” Marlow wrote, “but first I would like to thank god for blessing me with my athletic abilities and smarts and also getting me to where I am now I would also like to thank my mom and grandparents for being with me through it all and also my coaches who also helped develop me into a great athlete and young man. But with that being said I am glad to say that I will be committing to the University of Vanderbilt. Go Commodores !”
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound Marlow, who attends Winter Haven (Fla.) High, committed to Vanderbilt over Nebraska, along with Arizona, Duke, Iowa State, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Purdue and Wake Forest. Overall, he has 21 offers.
Marlow – whose primary and secondary recruiters for Vanderbilt are wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton and special teams coordinator Jeff Genyk, respectively – was on campus at the school on June 17 for an unofficial visit and March 25 for junior day prior to his commitment. He was offered by the Commodores on Feb. 22.
With his commitment, Vanderbilt now has 14 in its 2018 class. Per 247Sports, it’s the nation’s No. 28 class and No. 5 in the SEC.
Since the beginning of June, Vanderbilt has now picked up 10 commitments. Three-star tight end Ben Bresnahan, three-star athlete Gavin Schoenwald, kicker Javan Rice, four-star wide receiver Camron Johnson, three-star offensive guard Wyatt Smock, three-star cornerback Tre Douglas, three-star cornerback Rayshad Williams, three-star safety Dashaun Jerkins and three-star safety Maxwell Worship are the others.
From December 2016 until May, the Commodores had just four commitments (four-star inside linebacker Alston Orji, three-star quarterback Allan Walters, three-star center Daniel Dawkins and three-star athlete Miles Jones) in their class.
Marlow, according to 247Sports Composite, is a top-70 running back in the nation and top-165 overall prospect in Florida.
Last season as a junior at Winter Haven, Marlow rushed for close to 900 yards and 11 touchdowns.
