It’s been more than half a century since Vanderbilt played an opponent from the far west of the country. The Commodores are about to get another one in 2018.

Vanderbilt will host Nevada on Sept. 8 of the 2018 season, the schools announced Thursday.

The two schools have never previously met.

The Sept. 8 game completes the Commodores’ non-conference schedule for the season. In addition to the Wolf Pack, they’ll also play Sept. 1 against Middle Tennessee, Sept. 15 at Notre Dame, and Sept. 29 against FCS program Tennessee State.

It’s the first time the Commodores have scheduled an opponent from the Pacific Time Zone since 1961 when Vanderbilt lost 28-21 to UCLA.

Vanderbilt also has scheduled future games against Hawaii and Colorado State. The Commodores will play Hawaii in 2022 and 2023 and Colorado State in 2020, 2021, 2025 and 2026.
