Head coach Jeremy Pruitt and the Volunteers have been hot on the recruiting trail the past couple of weeks. Tennessee has added three commitments to its 2019 recruiting class since March 30, including one from junior college defensive lineman Darel Middleton.
“Tennessee has always been home to me and I really liked the way the coaching staff talked to me,” Middleton told GN. “They approached me differently than most other staffs did.”
Middleton, (6-feet-7, 290 pounds) is originally from Oak Ridge, (TN.) and is currently attending East Mississippi Community College.
Middleton committed to Tennessee all the way back in May of 2013, but says he wasn’t ready for that type of commitment at such an early age.
“I committed to Tennessee once before, but at the time my head wasn’t on straight,” Middleton said. “I was still young and most people that commit at a young age, it goes straight to their head and I would say I was a little cocky back then. But this go around my relationship with the coaches is really good.”
As for the type of defensive lineman Tennessee is getting with Middleton.
“I would say I’m athletic for my size,” Middleton said. “I’m explosive and I can get off the ball pretty quick. In high school, I played both sides of the ball, but right now I’m just focusing on defense.
“Right now I’m a tackle, but I can play both, either defensive end or defensive tackle.”
Now that he has once again committed to Tennessee, is Middleton planning on shutting his recruitment down?
“I’m a diehard Tennessee fan and we will just see how things go with the whole process,” Middleton said. “I’ve already been through this process and that’s why I went ahead and jumped on it early because they know where I want to be.”
Middleton, had this message for the Tennessee fan base.
“I’m glad to be coming home and thanks for the love they have been giving me on social media. I can just feel the love I’m going to get when I get back home and I can’t wait to run through that ‘T.’”
Middleton joins three-star tight end Jackson Lowe and three-star LeDarrius Cox as commitments Tennessee has received in the past two weeks.
