South Carolina defensive lineman Dante Sawyer can handle quite a bit of weight on the squat rack.
During the Gamecocks’ “Max Day” on Friday, Sawyer squatted 616 pounds as was shared on video by the football’s program official Twitter account.

At the conclusion of Sawyer’s successful squat, many of his teammates celebrated wildly as they watched behind him.
Sawyer, a senior this fall, was the last player shown in the video. Several other South Carolina players also apparently set personal bests on squats in the video.
After spending one season at East Mississippi Community College in 2014, Sawyer transferred to South Carolina where he has spent the past two seasons. In that time with the Gamecocks, he has recorded 42 tackles (6.5 for loss), 3.5 sacks, three passes defended and two fumble recoveries.
Sawyer is expected to start at defensive end for South Carolina this season.
