South Carolina coach Will Muschamp thinks the play of the quarterback position will be what ultimately decides which team wins the SEC East this season.

“I think it all goes with the quarterback,” Muschamp said Tuesday on “The Opening Drive” in Birmingham, Alabama. “I know that Georgia’s got their guy (Jacob Eason) coming back. I think Drew Lock at Missouri is a really good football player. Vanderbilt’s got their guy back (Kyle Shurmur), Tennessee will have a new quarterback, we have Jake Bentley back and Kentucky has their guy returning (Stephen Johnson).

“I really think it goes back to who your quarterback is. Florida will have a new quarterback this year, so that kind of goes with how your season goes.”

South Carolina has a true freshman quarterback returning in Jake Bentley. He threw for 1,420 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions.

During his seven starts last season, the Gamecocks went 4-3.
